SearchlightAn update from Graham on some aspects of the Searchlight Project which ran earlier this year to explore our direction as a Church.

Plans to Re-order the Interior of the Church
One especially important recommendation from Searchlight, and something that has been talked about at Holy Trinity for at least a couple of years now, is the question of re-ordering the interior of the church building. Earlier in the year, an important preparatory survey was completed, and unanimous support for the project to be moved forwards was given at the Annual Meeting.

More recently, the architect, John Beauchamp met with the PCC to discuss the way ahead. John was the architect behind the imaginative and sensitive re-ordering of St Michael’s Without, Bath. I would recommend you pop in and take a look, or you can do it from your armchair by taking the virtual tour available via www.stmichaelsbath.org.uk.
Following on from John’s meeting with the PCC, we have asked the Diocesan Advisory Committee (the church equivalent of a planning authority) to send a delegation to meet with us and the architect to discuss our proposals; an important next step in the process of gaining official approval to proceed which we hope may take place in July.In the meantime, a project steering group has been meeting to keep things moving and we hope to have a display mounted during the Frome Festival which should bring the plans to the attention of visitors and the community.
We also have a small group who will co-ordinate the demanding task of applying for grants and raising the necessary funds.

The most important aspect of the whole project, is that it is properly covered in prayer, firstly that we remain within the Will of God for this undertaking as to do so means that what appears humanly impossible, becomes reality. And, secondly, for protection and unity across our church family as experience tells me that work of this significance can open a church up to many difficulties. But then, who would set out on such a great adventure as this without preparing carefully, and most especially, with prayer.
